Hi, everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we'll be taking a look at our Rhino-Rack roof rack system. So this has the 59-inch long crossbars, the RLTP adapters for Vortex crossbars and the gutter mount feet, which are 4 by 5/16 inches tall. We'll take a look at this entire setup right here on our 2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. So you got your Jeep, you're ready for adventure, and you even have the 4xe, the hybrid version, which gives you a little extra energy as you go around.
Now, what if that's not enough What if you wanna carry more accessories Let's say you wanna carry kayaks or roof boxes, or even bikes on top of your Jeep. What you then need is a roof rack system just like this. So this is the Rhino-Rack roof rack system with the Vortex aero crossbars and the feet that mount right into your gutters. Super easy, quick install. And this allows you to carry all those extra items on top of your Jeep.
So I've put a lot of roof racks on a lot of Jeeps, and depending on the top or what you wanna do, that changes pretty much everything. For example, for those that have that Sky One-Touch Top that goes up and then you need extra height here, you get the extra tall gutter mount towers. Other people like to get these gutter mount towers and get three pairs of them. That way, they have the full setup for pretty much any type of adventure they want to go on. Another version is the Pioneer Platform from Rhino-Rack that creates entire platform on your Jeep.
So before continuing with this video, first, figure out what are you gonna do with your 4xe What type of adventures are you going on And that will help you figure out the best roof rack for your system. In this video, we'll talk about the different specs, the different measurements of this specific system, and that will help you figure out what you want to do. So what we have here are the 59-inch long crossbars. This is the recommended length by Rhino-Rack. I actually personally would go ahead and get longer crossbars.
That way, you can maximize the fact that you have a roof rack system. Other people like that low-profile style. So the perks of this is that doesn't stick out too far out of your Jeep. You actually have an overhang of one inch from the end of the tower to right before the end cap. So more overhang is helpful if you wanna put items on the outside of your crossbars. That makes it easier for you to reach. The downside is it sticks pretty far out. So if you're trying to get into your car or into your Jeep, you don't wanna hit your head against overhang. Now, let's talk about roof clearances. So there's two important measurements there. One is the height from the top of your roof to the bottom of your crossbar. And right here, that sits at two and I'd like to say a half inches, 2 1/2 inches of clearance right there. So if you have items or accessories that have clamps that go around your roof, that's how much space you have for those. If that is on the low side, if that's too little, you can go ahead and use your T track system and mount them up there. Now, next measurement is gonna be the height added to the top of our roof. So top of our roof to the top of the crossbar is, let's say 3 3/4 inches. That's where your cargo and your accessories are going to sit. So if you're carrying skis and snowboards, and they have extra-tall bindings, you're gonna wanna make sure your accessories sit high enough and you have extra height for that. An example is the Yakima FatCat EVO, which has a ski lift with extra height. That way, your bindings don't hit the top of your roof. On the end of your crossbars, you're gonna have these end caps. So you're gonna have an included special Rhino-Rack security key that's gonna help secure the end cap. We have this unlocked. Once you have the end cap out, you now have access to Vortex strips. So notice here, we have an aero Vortex style, which helps reduce that wind drag and wind noise, especially compared to round and square crossbars. And when you open this up, you can see how we have the T slot. So if you have T track-mounted accessories, they go in here. Now, a downside to this is you're gonna have to cut those strips to fit around those accessories. So go ahead and pick up an extra pack. We have them here in etrailer, and that will help out if you're planning to use those T slots. This roof rack system has a weight capacity of 165 pounds. Just remember, with that weight capacity, you'll have to be mindful of your actual Jeep's capacity. So add up the weight of your cargo, add up the weight of your accessory, and add up the weight of your roof rack system, and make sure all of that totaled up does not exceed your Jeep's capacity. Since you have gutters on the hard top of your Jeep, you then have the options to mount these wherever you want. So some people have three pairs of towers, so one, two, and a third bit towards the back. You could also mount these two towards the back. It really depends on what you're carrying around. So, as an example, I have mine pretty much center to center about 30 inches. And that's gonna be my crossbar spread, helpful for those different accessories that require a certain crossbar spread. So this kit is gonna include everything you need to install your roof rack. But there's some things that they don't include but I use and I recommend adding on to your repertoire. One of that is gonna be the tire step. I usually suggest the Moki door step, but that's not really the best fit because of the way the doors are shaped on the Jeep. So this is gonna give you that height and that traction so that you can reach up there and strap things down. Another thing I recommend picking up is gonna be your tape measure as well as a 10-millimeter wrench or socket to continue with the install. So let's take a look at that process. So the install process is gonna be really simple, but you do need to set things up first. So that's what I'm here for. We're gonna go through that process, and I'll guide you through getting your crossbar set up. So I already installed a little bit the rear crossbar. We'll install the front crossbar together. You first need to put the Vortex strips into the top channels. You are gonna have some excess of that Vortex strip, so go ahead and snip that off. So our version here has the Vortex bars. So what we actually need to do is we need to switch out our towers. You can see that this is what's included, and this is what it needs to be. So we're gonna get the adapters, and that's gonna be this. So we have a bolt, we have a split washer, we have this large square washer, we then have our Vortex adapter, and then we have the plate on top. So go ahead and replace those pieces. The adapter upwards goes on top of the tower, and then the square washer downwards goes below the tower. So then, you're gonna cut the measuring strips on the inside to your specification for your vehicle, and then insert them underneath right before you get your towers and tighten that down. So here on our Jeep Wrangler 4xe, I found a pretty good measurement to cut our piece at. It's gonna be at 180 centimeters, but double-check on your roof before you do so. You're then gonna install your tower. See that plate right over there It's gonna install onto the inside of that track. Get that with your measuring tape, and then tighten it down if you are sure about your measurements. Now, make sure that you also tighten down your towers to your crossbar. So this uses a 10-millimeter socket or a wrench, and that's gonna tighten everything down. You can do this while it's on your roof, or you can do this on the table if you get your measurements right the first time. If you haven't already set up your towers, you do so by rotating or loosening this bolt, just enough to take this clamp out. Then, you're gonna put the rubber boot on the inside since this is what's making contact with your gutters. So with everything set up and everything tightened down, this very gently goes onto the gutters of your Jeep. You can move these towers back and forth whatever crossbar spread you want. I'm gonna stick them right here by the door. Make sure your clamp goes around the gutter all the way before you tighten it down. Then, tighten it down evenly on both sides. Once you have all four towers tightened down, the clamps are tight, the towers are tight, your final step is just to put the end cap into your crossbar. Make sure it's facing the right way. There we go. Then, you're gonna use you're included blue key to tighten that down. And that's it for the install. Don't forget, you can switch out that blue key with a Rhino-Rack lock core that's sold separately. Do that for all four end caps, and you're ready to load this up and hit the road. So my personal thoughts about this roof rack system is it's really, really simple to install. And that's my favorite part about it. Now, you do get to choose really quickly and easily where you wanna set up your crossbars. You just loosen up the bolts on those clamps, slide them down your gutters, and tighten them back into place. So this creates an easy-to-use, easy-to-install system for your Jeep 4xe, creating that extra opportunity to carry all kinds of things for your adventures. Now, definitely check out the other bar lengths. If you want more overhang, we have those right here at etrailer. If you wanna add another pair onto your Jeep, it's the exact same process. You're just gonna have three sets. So those are all options available for you and your Jeep 4xe here at etrailer.com. And that was a look at the Rhino-Rack roof rack system with a 59-inch long Vortex aero crossbars, the RLTP adapters for your Vortex crossbars, and the gutter mount feet, which are 4 by 5/16 inches tall right here on our 2022 Jeep 4xe.
